Candy Jumping original sample

Unread post by krobelit » Sat Feb 02, 2019 1:40 am

Candy Jumping has always been one of my favorite songs from the Re-Volt soundtrack. Breakbeat is one of my favorite electronic music genres, and this track always got me going.

Anyways, I recently found out that the drums in it were actually sampled from another song - Dett, by Demon Boyz. I later checked it on Whosampled.com and noticed that it had also been sampled in many other songs at the time (no mention of Re-Volt, though).

I know this topic isn't too amazing, but it left me wondering what other songs could've been sampled on the soundtrack

So this is very interesting. I never thought about the possibility, that Re-Volt music uses samples from other songs. It's really funny to hear the original, if you heard the song 20 years inside Re-Volt. :D Great finding!

Very nice finding! I wonder if it's only Candy Jumping or if other tracks also have samples from other music.

It's been a long time, but somehow I found another sample, also in this song. It's a drum break fron Kurtis Blow's Do The Do (at 2:29 in the original, and at 2:18 in CJ). It shows up alongside the main Demon Boyz break, so it's very subtle, yet I can confirm that it matches up.

It's probably a case similar to the "Pachelbel canon in D" or "The Wilhelm Scream" case – this may be simply a decent string of notes that matches many songs in a particular tempo (and also allows for additional instruments to be played alongside it quite easily), so it is used more widely than we even think. Especially if there is so many songs out there, some specific notes will be repeated. Music experts would have to say a bit more about it. Still a nice extra to find out about, especially if the sample is identical in two songs.

I actually found this one out through the N64 port audio samples. I'm not sure if it was actually used in the N64 soundtrack, but once I heard it, I recognized it from that part in Candy Jumping (and I also happened to know the song it was originally from). The sample in question is this one:

(It doesn't play normally for some reason, so you have to download it)

What do you mean by the Pachelbel's Canon in D case? I only know of one other track that uses the chord progression, and no other track that uses any of the melodies.
