Re-Volt [Done] RC Bandit not mandatory

Unread post by kiwi » Wed May 08, 2019 8:53 am

Online race hosts use the possibility of custom car folders, to force the availability of only some cars with the Random Cars mode enabled. Some of the folders inside /cars are mandatory, and can't be deleted. For example /cars/q, /cars/misc,...

Also the folder /cars/rc is mandatory, which is the folder from RC Bandit.

This has the effect, that RC Bandit is always part in the random cars pool, and some races have to be restarted because of this. If there are a lot of cars inside the pool it is not that big issue, but if there are only a handful of cars in the pool, the chance is pretty high that RC Bandit will be chosen, which result in a lot of race restarts.

Is there currently any possibility, to avoid this?

Can you explain more clearly what happens if the 'rc' folder is removed?

I am not in front of my PC right now to do a test, but an error message will be displayed, when RVGL will be started.

Something like "/cars/rc/body.prm can't be found".

I can give you more details and a screenshot/video in a few hours.

This bug is now fixed.

To elaborate, there were two separate issues:
  • Crash when attempting to load a non-existent car (eg, remove key cars and load frontend). Non-existent cars now remain invisible rather than causing a crash.
  • A deadlock when RC Bandit is removed and a random cars race is started. Simply starting a random cars race with the 'rc' folder removed is enough to cause this deadlock.
The game should now work with a cars folder containing only misc and q. Similar fixes have been added for random tracks too, allowing you to remove all stock tracks (except frontend) and place only the tracks needed for random selection (but this has not been tested).
