Alternative Battle Tag

Unread post by URV » Mon Apr 02, 2018 3:19 pm

In short, a secondary Battle Tag gamemode where the player with the star chases everyone else, as opposed to everyone chasing the star. We tested this out yesterday, but it was a bit of a disappointment. However, with a few adjustments and its own gamemode, it might make for a better experience.
  • The game begins with players racing to find the star, and the last player to reach is the one to receive it. If this is not decided within 30 seconds, the star is given randomly to one of the players who have not reached the star. Alternatively: The star is given to a random player after 10 seconds.
  • As opposed to regular Battle Tag, the star instead offers a small boost in speed (by about 10-25%), along with any other factors that I might not be aware of.
  • After a player runs out of time (and is eliminated), the star is automatically moved to the player with the most time remaining. If multiple players have the same time, the target is chosen randomly between them.
  • The results will be shown after there is only one player remaining, who will be shown in 1st place.
I think regular Battle Tag works better with a smaller amount of players (it can be really chaotic otherwise), whereas this alternative might be more compatible with over 8 players.

Here's the version I played at the Laser Tag arena the other day:

The round begins and players have 15-30 seconds to hide.
When these seconds passed, the star is assigned to one random player.
This player then needs to catch the others. If another player is tagged/caught, they will also receive a star (green glow).
Every tagged player then tries to catch all untagged players.

Every 60 seconds (or when all players have been tagged), all stars will be removed and one star will be reassigned to a random player.
This happens even if not all players have been tagged.

A timer counts up for players whenever they're not tagged. The player with the longest time untagged wins.

The game ends after a certain amount of rounds.

I also find very fun one of the special game modes in another game called Crashday. The game mode is called "Pass the bomb".
At the beginning, the bomb is randomly given to one of the players. The round lasts something like 30 seconds and when the timer reaches 0 the bomb explodes. Points are awarded to players in the following way:
- 0 points if you die
- 1 point if you survive
- 3 point if you were the last one to pass the bomb before it exploded

It's fun because for the first half of the round everybody is trying to catch the bomb carrier and for the other half everybody is running away from it.

That sounds like it could be even better!
