ipv6 support

Unread post by wolfheimrick » Sat May 02, 2020 7:53 pm

Hello everyone,

ENet seems to support ipv6, would it be possible to add this feature into RVGL?

Cordially,

ENet in fact doesn't support IPv6, even though patches were contributed multiple times. This is because it will be a major, compatibility-breaking change. I've been considering forking ENet and applying the patches myself, but we'd still need IPv6 users available for testing.

I can confirm that there are, in fact, at least two.

I mean, the company that is working on ipv6 failed yet again to fulfill the requirements so I personally wouldn't really push for IPv6 at current time. Still a good long-term plan though.

Oh ok, I thought I saw something related to ipv6 in the doc. My bad.
The only benefit would be to host without redirecting ports from the routeur to the computer hosting the game.
In some cases (I got this issue myself) users from ISP share IPs with other users.

Cheers,
