Crash / music / frustration

Unread post by crogonint » Tue Aug 14, 2018 10:43 pm

Ok, I've been at this for 3 days now, just broke down and set up an account. Sorry to be a bother. Win7 64 bit. I have a pretty beefy intel card that runs most 3d games. It claims DX10 compatibility, but I'm not sure I've seen a game that uses that. I have dozens that use DX9c. Dual core 1.8Ghz, 4gb RAM

http://re-volt.io/downloads
RVGL full (64a and 64s) Crashes when it attempts to start a race.

GoG version works, the current RV patch kills music and sound

https://www.revoltrace.net/downloads.php
This version, which uses the current patch, turns off music intentionally. ARGH!!

Also, I've tried merging various copies of 'all cars, all tracks' and 'music' from around the internet without any good results. Sometimes the box.bmp won't load and throws an error, sometimes I have three car boxes, sometimes I can't change car colors.. one time the car loaded without a skin. I haven't seen a new track YET. Sometimes it breaks the old tracks, and won't load it at all, or loads the track, but the car is at an altitude of.. well some tracks load in the clouds, some above the clouds, and the track reloads every five seconds.

I don't know what else to report.. I've got like 6-10 GBs of crap downloaded and a big fat mess. Oh yeah! The various demos appear to work.. until I patch them.

Help!! :/

I guess I should specify, I don't want ALL cars / tracks. I'm not even sure what the Dreamcast thing adds, because I haven't gotten it to work yet. I just want to set up a game to play local LAN (or..?) with my son. Probably a few dozen up to a couple hundred fun cars and vehicles (there's a UFO?) and a few dozen fun tracks would suffice. I do want the original music and sounds, etc. It's been a LONG time since I played this game, and I just want to make it as fun as possible for us to play. :)

RVGL can't use Audio CD ...
If you wish music back, download this and save it on [rvgl/redbook] folder ... and enjoy PS1music ;)

Hmm, that's really weird. Can you post the log file of this install? It's located in [install directory]/profiles/re-volt.log.

The Dreamcast version of Re-Volt has a bunch of repaints of the original cars and a new track that are not present in any other version, which you can get from the pack. The cars aren't much special but the track is cool.

Absolutely! I got so frustrated, I gave up and deleted the whole mess, now I'm starting over.

I CAN install and play the GoG version I dug up.. but adding any cars or etc. (including DC) gives me 'shadow' errors when I try to start the game, and those cars and tracks are giving me the basket full of graphics errors (missing box art, skins, etc.). I assume that everything is modded for version 1.2.

When I install version 1.2 on top of the GoG version I found, I lose ALL sound. If i HAD a 1.2 patch for the GoG version (that killed the idiotic random wipe outs) I would be perfectly happy. :)

When I install.. er, copy the assets, DC cars, RVGL and etc.to a folder then run RVGL (nonshader), it crashes. The Windows error box says:

Code: Select all

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
  Application Name:	rvgl.exe
  Application Version:	1.2.18.731

I don't see anything of interest at the end of the log file. Maybe there's some juicy bits in the middle somewhere. ;)

OK, I'm going copy the the shader version... Wait, they're combined.. wait, I don't HAVE a rvgl.ini.. anywhere.

um.. I'll download the 's' version?? Nope. The (older version) linked archive in post #2 is apparently just an update. ..I guess I'll attempt the installer for RVGL current? Will it update a non-installed version, where I copied the folders?? Guess I'll find out.

..this is starting to turn in to a mess again..

Well, the RVGL installer wants to update my GoG version.. which isn't currently installed. I'll attempt to redirect it to c:/games/revolt instead (where I copied the asset files and DC content).

ACTUALLY.. since it installed to that folder, which is different to a copy and paste, let's run that and see what shakes loose.. Error, looks the same:

Code: Select all

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
  Application Name:	rvgl.exe
  Application Version:	1.2.18.731
  Application Timestamp:	5b5fa45e
  Fault Module Name:	StackHash_20bb

I STILL don't have a rvgl.ini file with which to enable the shader version. Guess I can attempt to create one by hand.. No love there, the version number isn't yellow, so I assume the shader didn't engage. I'll try to add the GLProfile parameter as well, and cycle through those options.. Now that's interesting. I quit from the menu, and got a windows error screen at close:

Code: Select all

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
  Application Name:	rvgl.exe
  Application Version:	1.2.18.731
  Application Timestamp:	5b5fa45e
  Fault Module Name:	StackHash_258a
  Fault Module Version:	6.1.7601.24231

  Additional Information 3:	71a3
  Additional Information 4:	71a3a7a9eb2c7d899699798c7cda9c72
None of the modes to enable shader work. Also, after reading what the GLProfile modes do, I tried
Shaders = 0
GLProfile = 2
as well. Then I disabled all render options. Everything I do crashes when it tries to load the level. The re-volt.log looks just the same as before.

Help. :S

Hey, thanks Seb. I'm not going to have a cow if I don't get THE original PC music. I was happy with the GoG music, the DC/redbook version and another version I found that installed in to a 'music' folder. ;)

I just want to have SOME music, in the original style, and the sounds active. So far I can't get a current version with audio to work. :/
